Joyce Gist Lewis served as lead trial counsel representing the receiver of a failed community bank in the first case tried to a jury following the Georgia Supreme Court ruling in Fed. Deposit Ins. Corp. v. Loudermilk, which outlined the limits of Georgia’s business judgment rule as a defense to claims of director and officer liability. Joyce and her trial team obtained a $5 million judgment for their client and the highly complex and closely watched trial provided a roadmap for holding directors and officers accountable for breach of their fiduciary duties in Georgia.
