On Friday, June 19, 2020, Krevolin & Horst will observe Juneteenth as an official firm holiday. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally-celebrated commemoration of the ending of chattel slavery in the United States. Juneteenth refers to June 19, 1865 — the date that the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned that they had been legally recognized as free persons, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Against the backdrop of recent events in Atlanta and the US that have brought much-deserved attention and awareness to issues of racial justice and continuing systemic inequality in our country and our city, we encourage everyone to take this day as an opportunity to reflect, to educate ourselves, and to celebrate this second American Independence Day. Below are links to a sampling of local events honoring the holiday, and many other events and resources can be found online.
