Firms must embrace that increasing diversity is more than just a hurdle to clear, said Joyce Gist Lewis, a partner at Krevolin & Horst LLC.
“[It’s] buying into the concept that having a diverse pool of lawyers makes you stronger, makes you better and more competitive in the marketplace,” she said. “If you’re going to trial, you want a team that looks like the jury you are presenting your case in front of. It’s hard to make connections with 12 strangers, but it’s that much more difficult if your team is homogenous.”
