Chris Adams focuses his practice on education law. Chris has represented over 25 charter schools, charter school networks, and private schools in Georgia, often serving as their general counsel.  His work for charter schools involves authorization, funding, governance, personnel, enrollment, discipline, contract negotiations, and facilities-related issues. He also represents students, faculty, and institutions at the higher education level. With a background as a litigator, Chris also handles complex litigation and appeals, particularly in the context of education.

About Chris

Chris’s work on behalf of education clients includes:

  • Working with K&H’s real estate team to find facilities solutions for educational institutions.
  • Negotiating substantial additional funding from local districts.
  • Representing education service providers and charter schools to negotiate management agreements, leases, and other contracts.
  • Helping multiple schools through the authorization and renewal processes.
  • Working with multiple charter schools on enrollment and socioeconomic diversity initiatives, including passing a 2015 law that allows charter schools to use “weighted lotteries.”
  • Representing public officials, professors, and students in litigation and before public tribunals, disciplinary hearings, Title IX proceedings, and investigations.

An expert on socioeconomic diversity, Chris has written, presented at conferences, and testified before the Georgia legislature regarding this issue. As a former teacher with Teach for America, Chris has served on charter school interview panels for the Atlanta Public Schools, Georgia Department of Education, and grant committees. He is a regular guest lecturer on charter schools at Emory University School of Law.

After graduating from Emory University School of Law, Order of the Coif, Chris clerked for the Honorable Julia Smith Gibbons of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and was a litigation associate at a firm in Washington, DC.
